While Paris is home to some of the world’s most iconic landmarks, there is so much more than meets the eye if you choose to venture away from the tourist hotspots!
Exploring hidden gems has become my new favorite thing to do while visiting Paris. It’s a totally different way to see the city and get to know the local version of Paris.
In this post, I will cover 15 hidden gems in Paris to explore, including secret gardens, quirky museums, and more! Plus, I’ve included a bonus section featuring hidden gem eateries and cafes for the foodies out there!
So whether you’re a first-time visitor or a seasoned traveler seeking a fresh perspective on Paris, keep reading to find out some of Paris’s best-kept secrets and unlock a new side of the city you have never seen before.

To start off our list of the best hidden gems in Paris, let’s head directly to the Parc des Buttes Chaumont.
While I personally prefer the parks in London vs Paris, there are some impressive parks in Paris to check out, especially if you get off the beaten path!
The Parc des Buttes Chaumont features hills, a lake with a small island housing a temple, and waterfalls! Yep, waterfalls in Paris!
Designed in the 19th century by Jean-Charles Alphand, the park offers panoramic views of Paris from its highest point. It also features a Suspension Bridge, walking ways, and beautiful plants and flowers, offering a perfect place to people watch.
Parc des Buttes-Chaumont is a favorite among locals for picnics, walks, and enjoying nature in the heart of Paris. It’s a great place to escape the tourist crowds and enjoy a more natural side of the city!

#2. Place des Vosges
Next on our list is the Place des Vosges! It is the oldest square in Paris, characterized by its symmetrical architecture and vaulted arcades.
Lined with red-brick townhouses with dormer windows and slate roofs, the square is a must-see while in the city. You can explore its manicured gardens, relax on benches under the shade of centuries-old trees, and explore galleries, boutiques, and cafes.
The atmosphere and history of Place des Vosges make it a favorite spot among locals and a delightful discovery for travelers seeking a quieter side of Paris.
We passed by here on our last trip to Paris while doing a pastry tour in Le Marais. During this tour, we also visited Jardin Rosiers, which felt even more under the radar than Place des Voges!
In fact, all of the Le Marais area feels like a hidden gem in itself! This neighborhood just north of Notre Dame is one of the oldest in the city with a rich history. Today, it’s a unique blend of old and new, with a strong Jewish and LGBTQ+ community as well!

#3. Cour du Commerce Saint-André
Tucked right in between the neighborhoods of Saint-Germain-des-Prés and the Latin Quarter is Cour du Commerce Saint-André.
This hidden passageway immediately transports you back in time to the 1700s, with adorable shops and restaurants lining a cobblestone street under a covered glass rooftop.
We had drinks here last time I was in Paris with a friend, who introduced us to this area! We would’ve walked right by it if we didn’t know it was there. It feels completely different to than neighborhood just outside of it.
And as you continue along the road, you’ll find Le Procope, the oldest restaurant in Paris!
#4. Rodin Museum
The Rodin Museum is another hidden gem in Paris celebrated for its collection of sculptures by artist Auguste Rodin. Housed in the former Hôtel Biron, the museum has iconic works such as “The Thinker” and “The Kiss.”
Its lesser-known status compared to more prominent museums like the Louvre allows for a more contemplative and immersive experience with Rodin’s works. You can explore both indoor galleries and the outdoor garden, making it a retreat and a highlight in the heart of Paris.
The cost of admission for the Rodin Museum is 14 euros, or you can get a combined ticket with the Musee d’Orsay for 25 euros. However, if you plan to visit more than 3 museums during your time in Paris, I highly recommend the Paris Museum Pass.

#5. Picnic Along the Seine
While not a specific location, strolling along the banks of the Seine is one of my favorite things to do in Paris to avoid the crowds.
Unless you are right in front of the Eiffel Tower, the banks of the Seine tend to be very quiet and relaxing. You can choose to walk the left or right bank, depending on which side of the river you are on!
This is also a great place to watch the sunset and see the Eiffel Tower lit up at night. While most people choose to have a picnic right at the Eiffel Tower, there are plenty of spots along the Seine to have a picnic and avoid the crazy crowds.
If you are wanting to watch the sunset and see the Eiffel Tower light up, head east along the river towards the Louvre and Notre Dame.
In fact, a popular place for locals is the Square du Vert-Galant, a tiny park on the western edge of the Île de la Cité. This park faces the sunset and the Eiffel Tower for perfect views!
#6. Musée de la Chasse et de la Nature
If you are a fan of nature or history, you don’t want to miss the Musée de la Chasse et de la Nature. This unique museum celebrates the art of hunting and nature through a collection of artifacts, paintings, and sculptures.
