Pros and Cons of a Bahamas Bachelorette

Before we get into the details of the itinerary, I wanted to go through the pros and cons of having a Bahamas bachelorette party at the Atlantis Resort. This destination is not for everyone, so it’s important to know the details before you start planning! But let’s start with the pros!

Pros

Convenience: Staying at Atlantis provides enough activities to fill an entire weekend at least. Once you arrive, you won’t need to leave the resort if you don’t want to. There are tons of beaches, pools, slides, bars, and more to keep you and your girlfriends occupied on a bachelorette party!

Beauty & Culture: The Bahamas is one of my favorite countries on earth. The water is unbelievably blue, the temperature is perfect year-round (minus hurricane season!), and the Bahamian people are incredibly friendly.

Food: Not to mention the food!! If you don’t eat seafood, you might be a little disappointed. That’s not to say Atlantis only has seafood – they have tons of restaurants with options for everyone! But seafood is a staple in Bahamian culture and that is going to be the yummiest food at the resort. Make sure you order Conch Fritters and a Bahama Mama at least once while you’re there. You won’t be disappointed!

Drinking and Gambling Age is 18: If you have bridesmaids under 21, the Bahamas is a great destination because the drinking and gambling age in the Bahamas is 18, and they don’t card often.

Marriot Property = Points! We all love our hotel points.. You will earn Marriot points for staying at the Cove, the Royal, or the Coral hotels at Atlantis Resort.

Cons

Passport required: The Atlantis Resort is in the Bahamas – which means you need a passport to get into the country. There are ways around this (if you take a cruise from the US, for example). But if you are planning to fly in, you will need a valid passport.

Limited Cell Service: Being in a different country also means no cell phone service unless you arrange for an international plan. BUT there is Wifi throughout the entire resort, so you really don’t need cell service if you have an iPhone. We managed to get by without it and had a wifi connection just about everywhere on the property.

Resort Prices: You are staying at a resort so things can get pricey! But there are of course ways to cut costs and throughout your stay which we definitely took advantage of. I sprinkle in some tips throughout this post!

Crowds: Nassau (the capital city of the Bahamas) is a popular cruise destination. Some cruise goers just explore downtown Nassau or do an excursion. However, Atlantis offers day passes to cruise visitors for the waterpark, so expect large crowds on popular weekends at the resort. If you can, go during the week or at least not on a holiday weekend.

Getting to the Bahamas

Reason #1 for why the Bahamas is the perfect bachelorette destination – you can get direct flights from all over the country for the same as standard flights to popular US cities. Airlines that have direct routes to Nassau include American Airlines, Delta, JetBlue, Southwest, United, and more. Travel times vary based on your departure city of course, but direct flights guarantee a quick flight with minimal delays.

Once you arrive at Lynden Pindling International airport (NAS), first you will need to clear customs and immigration with your passport, then get your baggage. The Nassau airport is located about 30 minutes away from Atlantis, which is technically on Paradise Island.

If you have a big group, I recommend booking private transportation in advance. There are tons of companies on Trip Advisor with great reviews! A round trip private taxi for 6 people shouldn’t cost more than $150! We used Jermaine’s Taxi and Tours. Atlantis does offer shuttle services but it is a shared service with other resorts and doesn’t have great reviews. Plus, it’s overpriced!

Here’s a quick tip: Have your driver stop on the way to Atlantis at a local liquor store or supermarket to stock up on snacks and drinks. Alcoholic drinks are pretty expensive at the resort so I recommend grabbing some mixers and liquor before you arrive to save some money, especially if you’re there for a bachelorette party! We saved a TON of money by being able to make our own drinks in the room. There is a small store on property that has water, snacks, and other essentials, but of course everything is going to be cheaper outside the resort.

Where to Stay

You might be thinking… what do you mean “where to stay” – aren’t I staying at Atlantis for this Bahamas bachelorette?! However, within the resort, there are five different hotels to choose from that each boast their own amenities and style: The Royal, The Coral, the Cove, the Reel, and The Harborside Resort. There really is something for every bachelorette party style.

Be sure to check out the Atlantis Website for more information and pricing on each one, which will vary based on the time of year! I also highly recommend reading the Trip Advisor reviews on each resort to get a feel for previous travelers’ opinions.

If you are looking for Marriot points, you’ll need to choose between the Coral, the Cove, and the Royal. For a bachelorette party, I highly recommend staying in the Royal Towers. The Royal is the most central out of all of the hotels, smack dab in the middle of the resort.

You’ll be right above the casino, lounge, and nightclub, and only a 5-10 minute walk from the waterpark, the marina, and most of the pools. The only thing that is a little far from the Royal (compared to the other hotels) is the beach, but we didn’t find this to be too inconvenient.

If it’s in everyone’s budget, The Cove is also a great choice if you’re looking for something a little more luxurious. The pool at this resort is adults-only and exclusive to guests of the hotel, and the restaurants and bars are outstanding!

I don’t recommend The Coral for a bachelorette party as it’s primarily geared towards families. The Reef and the Harborside Resort are more apartment-style, with kitchen and living areas or studio suites, which could be convenient for smaller groups! The Reef is the more luxurious of the two, and you’ll pay a higher price tag to be closer to the beach!

Packing list for the Bahamas

If you’re planning a Bahamas bachelorette party, there are some “must have” items that I wouldn’t leave without! Here are a few:

  1. SUNSCREEN: Obviously you’re going to be in the sun pretty much your whole trip! I never leave the house without my Supergoop! sunscreen. It’s so lightweight, and reef safe too!
  2. MINI SPEAKER: There is music by some of the pools, but if you’re going for a bachelorette, I recommend bringing a little speaker like this one so you can always bring the party with you!
  3. SUNGLASSES: I always end up losing or breaking my sunnies, so I love these cheap ones from Amazon that look like RayBans!
  4. MATCHING COVERUPS: You need to have something matchy for a bachelorette party, and these adorable bathing suit coverups from Kenny Flowers are perfect for the Bahamas.. I mean they even have a print named for the Bahamas!
  5. PASSPORT: Can’t forget this for the Bahamas!
  6. WATERPROOF SANDALS: These Reef sandals are my go-to for all activities around the water!
  7. CREDIT CARD WITH NO FEES: I love my Capital One credit card because it has no foreign transaction fees!

Day 1: Explore, Brewery, & Sunset Pool Party

Welcome to the Bahamas!! Once everyone arrives at the resort and gets checked in, I recommend walking around the resort to get your bearings. The property is HUGE, and it’s easy to get kinda lost, so exploring when you arrive is a good way to get the lay of the land.

For example, walking from one end of the resort to the other would probably take 30 minutes to an hour – that’s how big it is! Luckily, there is a free shuttle that goes between all of the hotels that you can hop on and off of. We didn’t really need this though!

A good place to check out on your walk around the property is The Dig – an underground series of aquariums and tanks, themed around the Lost City of Atlantis.

Grab a drink and wander through tunnels, and you might see moray eels, lion fish, manta rays, and more. You can enter The Dig through the Royal lobby or near the beach lagoon.

As you explore the resort, make your way over to the Marina Village. If you’re there in time for lunch, there a few options in the area. If you’re just looking for a drink and snacks, check out the Pirate’s Republic Brewery. Grab a Black Beer’d Stout or Island Pirate Ale at one of the best microbreweries in the Caribbean!

If there’s still daylight, make your way back to the Royal Towers, mix up a few drinks, and put your bathing suits on! Head down to Royal Baths Pool for a pool party as the sun goes down. If you want something casual for dinner, you can grab pizza from Marina Pizza or quick service from Shark Bites nearby.

Spend the evening jamming out, eating pizza and drinking cocktails as the sun sets behind the gorgeous Royal Towers. Once the pool closes (or later if the lifeguards let you stay), head back to your room and play some bachelorette games! Also, dance party!

Day 2: Ocean Activity, Beach, & Fancy Dinner

To kick off Day 2 of your Bahamas bachelorette party, I recommend getting out on the beautiful Bahamian water! There are tons of different options based on your budget and preference: snorkeling, scuba diving, jet skiing, banana boating, etc.

I highly recommend the snorkel tour through Oasis Ocean 7! You get to snorkel with sea turtles and then go to a private beach. If this isn’t your style, browse through GetYourGuide for some different options at various price points with the link below!

No matter what tour you choose, it will be awesome to experience the Bahamas outside of the resort.

After a morning on the water, head over to the Cove’s Sip Sip Restaurant back at the resort for lunch! After lunch, spend the rest of the afternoon bouncing between the Cove Beach & the Baths Colonnade Pool. Relax and enjoy paradise on day 2 of your Bahamas bachelorette!

After your day of relaxation, get ready for your fancy dinner at Nobu! Or, if your looking for something a little more budget friendly, check out Chopstix inside the Coral.

After dinner, test your luck at the Casino and dance the night away at the Aura Nightclub.

Day 3: Brunch, Spa, & Waterpark

After sleeping in, make your way to Mosaic at the Cove and treat yourself to bottomless mimosas and buffet brunch! After indulging on good food and drinks, head over to the Mandara Spa to nurse your hangover and indulge in some self-care!

The spa at Atlantis has a variety of options for everyone, everything from hair masks to Swedish massages.

People who don’t want a service can buy a day pass for $20 and enjoy the large jacuzzi, sauna, steam room, and comfy robes! The perfect girl’s day.

In the afternoon, it’s time to explore even more pools and the famous Atlantis waterpark – Aquaventure! There are two areas of the waterpark: the Mayan Temple and the Power Tower. There is also a very fun Rapids River that takes you on a thrilling tube ride through rocky ledges and waterfalls.

If you have extra time, you can also wander over to the Coral Pool, which has a bar in the middle of the pool! Because every bachelorette party needs a swim up bar.

The Drop slide at Atlantis

To kick off your last night, head over to Sea Glass at the Cove for cocktails and snacks before dinner. Sea Glass is a gorgeous little lounge with great vibes. The only thing that it’s missing is a happy hour!

After drinks, head over to Fish by José Andrés, an upscale seafood restaurant that will surpass all of your expectations! After dinner, check out any remaining areas of the resort you missed – this is the last night of your Bahamas bachelorette party!

750*350
